In January 2017 the 11.2 km Pir Panjal tunnel (Banihal–Qazigund, J&K), opened in 2013, was India's longest railway tunnel. It was later overtaken by the 12.8 km tunnel T-49 on the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla line (opened 2024).
